Calculated Route (Adjusted) | The elevation is adjusted at every tiploc that isn't in a tunnel or on a bridge. The sections between tiplocs are calculated based on the mapped gradient data.
Calculated Route (Original) | Excluding the start elevation, the route elevation is based on the gradient data mapped on the geospatial data.
Open Elevation | The mapped elevation at the start/end of each section using a free and open-source API. | Open-Elevation |
The elevation at each tiploc (timing locations) i.e. stations and junctions. | Google Elevation API
Ordnance Survey | The mapped elevation at the start/end of each section using Ordnance Survey ASCII data. | Ordnance Survey |
Note: The closer to zero (middle), the steeper the gradient. 1 in 47 is steeper than 1 in 1200.

This project is not longer being actively worked on. The University of Hull have successfully bidded for SBRI funding to build a great tool called REEC (Railfreight Energy & Emissions Calculator). Congratulations!
The tool below will remain for posterity.
